Benefits of being a VMware vExpert

VMware has a program titled vExpert in which people who do a lot for the VMware community are recognised with a title. Being rewarded as a vExpert has lots of benefits: free VMware licenses for your own usage, access to beta programs, being able to make contact with other vExperts, the vExpert/VCDX party at VMworld and lots more.

To become a vExpert you need to blog, do presentations, write a book, be a VMUG leader or anything else which benefits the community. You should do it however because virtualization is your passion and you like to share. If you want to become a vExpert for the wrong reason you probably will not come so far to be able to get the title.

The industry/eco- system around VMware also recognises the effort vExperts put into teaching and evangelize the community. Many vendors have gifts for vExperts.

Fellow vExpert Andrea Mauro wrote a great blog covering all the gifts for vExperts. I like to highlight three:

SimpliVity offers a free, personalized Raspberry Pi for vExperts. Details here.
TrainSignal gives away a one-year subscription to all their online video trainings. Details here.
HP gives away a NFR license of its StoreVirtual VSA. Contact Calvin Zito at @HPStorageGuy or hpstorageguy at hp dot com for details.
