How to use the Windows 2008 NFS service for VMware hosts

Windows Server 2008 can present it’s storage as a  NFS share. A NFS share can be used by ESX(i) host as storage for virtual machines and .iso files. VMware advises not to use a Windows Server hosted NFS share as virtual machine storage. But storage of ISO files is a good way to save expensive storage on iSCSI or FC storage.
